One of my biggest frustrations while suffering from performance and other muscular injuries, was the lack of central information for others to compare and trade stories and alternative solutions to muscular injuries. I found myself going from doctors to teachers searching for answers. After many years of suffering, I found long lasting relief of repetitive strain injuries through muscle activation techniques. When sharing my story with other injured students and colleagues, I realized so many were suffering silently. I wanted to create a place where others could learn about established and up and coming treatments related to muscular injury and choose the treatment best suited for their situation. This is what inspired the idea to create the forum. The Musicians Wellness Forum is a place to hear about alternative solutions, learn prevention techniques and discuss injury solutions others have found with various techniques. Even for those not injured the forum information is presented in a way that can be shared with friends, family or students that are seeking solutions.
Hope you will join us for an informative and eye opening event!
Dr. McCain is continuously developing a method of pedagogy based off of the results of 4 years of MAT treatments. She has given clinics, lectures and performances on the topic at many universities and music conferences. Including: Southwestern University, Texas State University, Texas Lutheran University, Southern Methodist University, Texas Music Festival and the Texas Music Teachers Association Conference. Her book on the topic will be released in 2015. It will include details about her muscular deterioration, a comparison of different modalities and pedagogical tips for musicians.
